Africa is the ancient birthplace of humankind, and so this meeting offers us the chance to return to our origins and taste our shared history. Importantly, it also offers us the occasion for expansion, not only geographically, but in the application of the vast knowledge base accumulated through the work of the ICP community to the African context.
This may be relevant to current topics like neurotrauma and hydrocephalus, but also novel topics like brain infection. Africa offers the ICP community the opportunity to examine how our science and skill set can have broader reach, and the ICP meeting offers Africa an opportunity to be exposed to innovative ways of investigating and treating neuropathologies.
